Honda Accord NHTSA Safety Rating
The 2019 Honda Accord has a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating from the NHTSA for 2019.1 This is true for both standard and hybrid models. They both also received five stars for their protection in front, side, and rollover crash tests.
This is thanks in part to the Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) Body Structure Honda uses in the Accord. This design works to absorb the force of a frontal collision, keeping everyone involved safer—even other vehicles.
Honda Accord IIHS Safety Rating
When the independently operated IIHS performed its own tests, it also found the Accord to be a safe car. That’s why it gave the 2019 Honda Accord the title of 2019 TOP SAFETY PICK for each MY19 trim level except for Touring.2
Like the NHTSA, the IIHS also studies crashworthiness. However, its tests go even further. They also look at things like:
- How much illumination the headlights provide
- How easy it is to properly install child seats
- How effective crash prevention technologies are at preventing frontal collisions

The 2019 Accord earned an Acceptable rating for its LED reflector low-beams and halogen reflector high-beams. You’ll find these on LX, Sport, EX, and EX-L models.
Its child seat anchors were rated as Good, the highest possible rating. Not only are they easy to find, but there are also extra LATCH positions on top of what the government mandates. This means you have even more options when it comes to placing your car seats in the Accord.
Lastly, the Accord received a Superior rating for its standard front crash prevention technologies. Again, this was the highest rating offered for this category.
Honda Sensing®: Safety Comes Standard
That suite of front crash prevention technologies is called Honda Sensing®. It comes standard in every 2019 Accord. See just a few of the ways these active safety technologies can help:
- If a car suddenly cuts in front of you, the Collision Mitigation Braking System™ can take action to slow you down.
- If you start to drift out of your lane on the highway, the Lane Keeping Assist System can gently guide you back.
- When you’re cruising down the highway, Adaptive Cruise Control offers low-speed follow to keep you at a set distance from the car in front of you.
Of course, these are just some of the standard safety features available in the 2019 Honda Accord. Higher trim levels can offer even more peace of mind, with added technologies like a Blind Spot Information System and Head-Up Display.
