Honda Pilot Safety Ratings
The Honda Pilot is an exceptional choice for your next family-friendly SUV. With its impressive passenger and cargo space, powerful engine, and state-of-the-art technology features, the Pilot is certain to make your Harrisburg, Mechanicsburg, and Hershey drives a little more fun!
However, at Faulkner Honda, we know that the features that matter most are those that keep you and your loved ones safe on the road. That’s why we’ve put together this review of the Honda Pilot’s safety ratings, plus a description of its standard and available assistance features. Let’s get started!
Honda Pilot Safety Features
The Honda Pilot is well-equipped with both standard and available safety assistance features. These features are designed to give you front to back coverage while on the road – and to fill in for those times you might find yourself distracted while driving.
The Honda Sensing® Suite comes standard in the 2019 Honda Pilot and is certainly equipped to be your personal driving assistant. This package comes with features such as:
- Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS™). This system helps bring your vehicle to a stop if there is ever an impending collision.
- Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM). If you’ve accidentally shifted into the next lane without signaling, this system will guide you back to your desired lane or signal the brakes when necessary.
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). This feature allows you to maintain a set speed while driving on the highway.
- Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS). The LKAS will keep you centered in your lane by making slight adjustments on the steering wheel when necessary.
Available Safety Features
With the coverage that the Honda Sensing® Suite provides, you might be surprised to learn that the Pilot offers even more available safety assistance features. These include blind spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, and rear cross traffic alert.
Honda Pilot Safety Ratings
Now that you know your options with the Pilot’s safety features, let’s see how they’re rated. We’ll look at rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
Both the NHTSA and the IIHS base their scores off of crash testing in several categories. Let’s check out how the Pilot ranked.
The NHTSA gave the 2019 Honda Pilot a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating¹. It earned five out of five stars on all side crash testing and four out of five stars on frontal crash and rollover testing.
The 2018 Honda Pilot was named a TOP SAFETY PICK+ by the IIHS², and the ratings for the 2019 model may earn it the same title. The 2019 Pilot earned an overall score of “Good,” the highest possible rating, in five crash tests.
